This is a project funded by the Egypt Small Grants Program (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
The project aims to promote the Wadi El-Hitan ( Valley of Whales), a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in Wadi el Rayan Protected Area, as a distinguished site for environmental and educational tourism by creating an electronic platform for the site, which consists of: the virtual museum, the digital library and the website.
The project will enable potential Park visitors and the general public to make a three-dimensional virtual tour of the site and obtain valuable information about the site.
The project will contribute to raising public awareness and promoting Wadi El-Hitan as a unique tourism destination and a distinct scientific and educational research site.
This will lead to raising the value of the site scientifically and touristly, attracting new tourist types to the site, increasing the number of students and researchers and developing the financial resources of the Park.
The project will also prepare a public awareness plan to promote the site as a global region for education and scientific research as well as putting the site on the map of environmental tourism. It will encourage field education and scientific research. It will also improve the image of the site through the establishment of several programs that promote digital visitation and awareness.
